What is this site for?
3dprintkosten.nl helps hobbyists and sellers work out the real cost of a 3D print. The calculator, the material comparison and the printer comparison are free and work without an account.
How the calculator works
- Filament = weight in grams ÷ 1000 × price per kg
- Electricity = print hours × power in kW × price per kWh
- Depreciation = print hours × (purchase price ÷ lifetime in hours)
- Maintenance = print hours × maintenance per hour
- Failed prints = subtotal × failure rate ÷ (1 − failure rate)
- Labor = minutes ÷ 60 × hourly rate
- Suggested price = cost × (1 + markup percentage)

Where do the default values come from?
The defaults (such as €20 per kg of filament, €0.30 per kWh, a lifetime of 4000 hours and 5% failed prints) are reasonable estimates, not measured averages. Material and printer prices are indicative and change often. Always check current prices and specifications with the shop or manufacturer and enter your own values.
