Frequently asked questions
What is a lithophane?
A thin plate with thick and thin areas. Without light you see little, but with a lamp behind it your photo appears: thin areas let a lot of light through, thick areas very little.
Which photo works best?
A sharp photo with clear light and dark areas, such as a portrait or a pet. You can brighten photos that are too dark with the Brightness slider.
How do I print a lithophane?
Use white PLA, a layer height of 0.12 to 0.16 mm and 100% infill. Printing upright gives the most detail, printing flat is easier. Do not print too fast.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The lithophane is created in your own browser. Your photo never leaves your device.
What does a lithophane cost?
A lithophane 10 cm wide usually weighs 20 to 35 grams: with filament at 20 euros per kilo, that is 40 to 70 cents.
